Finding Keywords That Put You on the First Page on Google

Want to know what the best keywords are that will put you on the first page of Google? While there are tons of keywords research tools we can recommend, like SemRush or Moz — there are also very practical ways to determine your keywords before you dive into site audits, position tracking, etc. This method is not only simple but also extremely effective!

So what’s the best resource for finding the right keywords? It’s knowledge. It’s taking what you already have and breaking down the most important parts. Consider the customers who call, email, or walk-in to your place of business and start asking questions. What are they saying? These are your keywords.

This is because people are starting to communicate online the same way they do in real life and Google is getter smarter and smarter in adapting to fit these needs. People ask the same to questions to Google that they would mention in a conversation or an email inquiry. These conversations are the key to finding keywords!

But what if you’re still not sure what your customers might be asking? No problem, just start breaking down your company offers. For example, take a look at this master-planned community’s introduction to the neighborhood. Instead of only focusing on the most basic of keywords such as new homes or community — you can use content that's rich in relevant phrases to appeal to more specific search questions.

“Falls at Imperial Oaks is a master-planned community in Spring, Texas located just minutes from the Grand Parkway — boasting new homes from the $200’s by top Houston builders along with resort-style amenities, green space, and a great school district.”

While you may not realize it, these descriptions are full of keywords. And very few people are going to be searching for just “new homes”, they will most likely be looking for “new homes in Spring” or “new homes in a great school district,” because this is how we communicate in real life.

Notice that the description is loaded with rich keywords such as:

  • the Grand Parkway
  • green space
  • great school district
  • top Houston builders
  • resort-style amenities
  • homes from the $200’s

A potential homebuyer looking for a place to buy a new home is likely to search more specific phrases that have to do with their unique needs. Your company blog is the perfect place to include these questions on your website.

  • Best place to buy new home in Spring?
  • New homes zoned to good schools
  • New homes near the Grand Parkway
  • New communities with resort-style amenities
  • Houston home builders in Spring, Texas
  • Best neighborhoods for families?

Rather than competing against the hundreds or thousands of pages that mention new homes, you can use longer phrases to show up on the first page for more specific and real-life search terms. Not to mention, this method is also a great way to appeal to the right audience and buyer persona. (Download our free Ebook about creating buyer personas.
