As someone using social media marketing, it can be hard to know when is the best time to post, how often to post, and what kind of content to post. You don't want your advertising dollars if you are sponsoring posts to go to waste. And you don't want good content to go unseen by your target population.
The trickiest part about Facebook posts is that Facebook is constantly improving and updating their algorithms for which posts get the most traffic. It keeps staying on top of the technology to get the maximum views and conversions from your posts. A recent article from HubSpot illuminates some keys to posting on Facebook after writer Daria Marmer studied 25,000 Facebook posts made by businesses over one week this past summer.
How often should I post on Facebook?
After tracking the data, Marmer found the optimal number of times to post on Facebook is 2-5 times a week. She said each post only got an average of one click, but if a business posted over 5 times a week then each post would only average half a click. According to Marmer,
"Facebook prioritizes 'fresh' content and doesn’t want to overwhelm users with just one company in their feed, so when companies publish more than once in a day, their first post can be cannibalized by the second."
What is the best day of the week to post on Facebook?
While the data didn't show much difference in the success of a post from day-to-day, Marmer's study showed it was slightly more beneficial to post on Sundays and there was slightly less engagement on Fridays and Saturdays.
What time of day should I post on Facebook?
Marmer suggests there isn't enough reliable data for marketers to pick the ideal time of day to post. She says marketers should focus more on the quality of the content than the time of day of the post to gain more clicks.
